Whistleblowers - The New York False Claims Act
The Office of Attorney General is dedicated to routing out fraud and corruption, whether in the private or public sector. To that end, we employ a top-notch dedicated team of investigators, attorneys, auditors and analysts across the state. However, we rely on you, the public, for help.
If you see or have evidence of fraud or illegal or corrupt practices, we encourage you to contact us. You should also know that whistleblowers have rights. Under state law, you might be protected from being fired or retaliated against by your employer for reporting fraud and abuse to authorities. You should contact a private attorney to learn more about these rights.
In 2007 New York passed the False Claims Act. The False Claims Act empowers people to file suit against people and companies that defraud the state or a local government. Under the False Claims Act, a person filing suit might be eligible for a share of the recovery.
