Attorney General's Health Care Report: The Consumer Reimbursement System Is Code Blue
The New York Attorney General's Health Care Report: The Consumer Reimbursement System Is Code Blue explains how conflicts of interest and a lack of transparency have created a system of out-of-network reimbursement that is unfair, unclear, and needs to be reformed. The Report outlines the Attorney Generals principal recommendations to improve the system. First, the usual and customary or market rates for health care charges should be determined by an independent third party free of conflicts of interest, using a fair, objective, and reliable database. Second, before choosing their doctors, consumers should have access to information about how they will be reimbursed. A website available to the public would provide this information and help educate consumers about this issue. Click here to see the full report.
