Attorney General Names New Head Of Watertown Office

Attorney General Spitzer today announced the appointment of John T. Sullivan Jr. as the head of the Watertown Regional Office of the New York State Department of Law.

Sullivan has almost 30 years of experience as an attorney. He is also a former mayor of the City of Oswego.

"John Sullivan has impressive experience in law and public service," Spitzer said. "I am confident that he will serve the North Country with the utmost dedication and integrity."

Sullivan is a native of Oswego. He graduated from State University of New York at Oswego and Syracuse University College of Law. He began his career in public service, being elected three times as an Oswego County Legislator.

He served as an attorney for Oswego School District for seven years. He also served as a municipal attorney for Oswego and Fulton for four years.

Sullivan was elected mayor of Oswego in 1987. He focused on economic development as mayor and helped redevelop Oswego's waterfront and restore historic buildings in the community and launched a major upstate festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.

Since his term as mayor, Sullivan has been active in championing the needs of upstate cities and rural areas. He served as a member of numerous community and statewide organizations
professional legal associations.

Since 1999, Sullivan has been the controlling partner of the law firm, Sullivan Law Office, specializing in litigation, municipal law, and surrogate court law.

He also is an Associate Professor of Public Justice at the State University of New York at Oswego.

Sullivan is replacing Assistant Attorney General James O'Rourke, who retired.
