Seminars Highlight Living Trust Concerns

Attorney General Spitzer announced today that his office will be holding seminars throughout the Southern Tier to educate consumers about the sales claims of the rapidly growing living trust industry.

Consumer representatives will be hosting a series of six seminars entitled "Trust: Separating Fact from Fiction" between May 29th and June 26th. These meetings will be provided in Broome, Tioga, Otsego and Delaware counties.

The Attorney General's Office initiated these forums out of growing concern that living trusts may not be appropriate for everyone and that consumers need competent advice to ensure that any such trust is considered as part of an overall estate plan. A living trust is a document drafted to take the place of a will that will divide up a person's properties and avoid probate.
