Spitzer Issues Warning Against Price Gouging
Attorney General Spitzer reminded consumers and businesses in those communities affected by the flooding and other weather related emergencies that State law prohibits excessive increases in prices for essential goods and services.
The Attorney General's office will be monitoring prices for essential goods and services such as lodging, food and water, fuel, towing, and other vital or emergency services to ensure that consumers are not gouged.
"My office stands prepared to ensure that consumers are not gouged by those seeking to take advantage of tragedy by charging an excessive mark-up," Spitzer said. "I encourage those who are aware of unscrupulous actions, or who believe they have been victims of price gouging to report these incidents to my office."
