Spitzer Statement On The Psc's Decision To Delay Con Ed Refunds
Attorney General Spitzer released this statement today in response to the Public Service Commission's decision to delay refund checks for Consolidated Edison customers:
"The PSC action -- without any legitimate rationale -- releases Con Ed from its obligations to immediately refund money to its customers as was mandated by a statute passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Pataki just a month ago. This money belongs to Con Ed's customers and those customers should receive their refunds this month, as the law calls for," said Spitzer.
"We believe that the PSC action may violate the law and we are considering going to court to ensure that consumers receive their refund checks as soon as possible.
"The PSC's action is tantamount to granting Con Ed a restraining order on the question of refunds, before the federal court has ruled on the case."
