Statement From Attorney General Andrew Cuomo

“Today’s earthquake in Japan and the destruction it caused to one of its largest nuclear power facilities reminds us how important it is to keep nuclear power plants safe. Just last week, I called on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to expand the criteria they examine when considering the relicensing of nuclear power plants to include seismic and geographic issues, susceptibility to terrorist attacks, and the existence of acceptable evacuation plans. The earthquake in Japan underscores just how vulnerable we are and mandates that we do everything in our power to avoid disaster.”
