Statement By Attorney General Andrew Cuomo

"My office filed comments with the U.S. Department of Energy on November 5th demanding that it reconsider a damaging decision that would allow the federal government to be the decision-maker on the New York Regional Interconnect transmission line, instead of New York State. Today, the Department of Energy has announced that it will indeed reexamine its ruling. Although it is too early to tell whether the significant legal problems that I have raised will really be addressed, I am encouraged that the DOE has acknowledged that it must revisit this critical issue. We will continue to fight to project the rights of homeowners that could be harmed by the NYRI proposal and to ensure a full environmental review."
Today's ruling by the DOE, which grants requests for a rehearing of its "Mid-Atlantic Area National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor" designation decision, can be found at: http://nietc.anl.gov/documents/docs/Order_Granting_Rehearing_Docket_01.pdf
