Statement By Attorney General Cuomo On The Recent Supreme Court Ruling Regarding Public School Integration

“Although the Supreme Court’s decision struck down race-conscious school assignment programs in two districts, the ruling recognized our nation's moral commitment to creating an integrated society, and left open the possibility that race can be considered to achieve diversity in schools. To the extent the ruling makes it harder to achieve integration through school assignment policies, it is even more important to renew efforts to end discrimination in housing. Vigorous enforcement of fair housing laws can be an important tool for creating and preserving stable, integrated communities and schools.”
