Statement By Attorney General Eliot Spitzer Regarding The Death Of Coretta Scott King
Like millions of people around the world, I am saddened to learn of the passing of Coretta Scott King.
Mrs. King was the matriarch of social change that ignited our nation in the bold pursuit of equality and fairness. She was an inspiring, compassionate leader in her own right who never let the dream die.
As president of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Mrs. King continued to be a strong voice for greater opportunities in education, healthcare and other issues.
She also helped train generations of activists pursuing change through peaceful means.
The Kings shaped our social consciousness in a way that will live on even though both are no longer with us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the King family.
