Statement By Attorney General Eliot Spitzer Regarding Lobbying Reform Legislation

"I am very pleased by the lobbying reform legislation that has been agreed upon. The bill expands the Lobbying Law to cover procurement lobbying, greatly restricts the manner in which lobbying can occur, requires reporting by those who engage in such lobbying, and increases penalties for violations of the law. These are meaningful changes that will help restore integrity and fairness to the contracting process, including contracts awarded by public authorities. I commend and congratulate Governor Pataki, Speaker Silver and Majority Leader Bruno for reaching agreement on these important reforms."
