Statement By Attorney General Eliot Spitzer Regarding Motor Vehicle Insurance Costs

The Executive today proposed a series of legislative and regulatory steps designed to confront rising automobile insurance costs, which are a major problem for New York consumers. In addition, the Executive announced its intention to designate my office as a special prosecutor for auto insurance fraud. I look forward to meeting this important challenge. With adequate resources, I am confident that my office can make significant progress in combating fraudulent claims and other crimes that inflate auto insurance costs for all New Yorkers.
