Statement By Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
|
NEW YORK -- Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: "Transforming our nation and inspiring the world, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of a just society appealed to the best in all of us. Today, as we honor the life, legacy and vision of Dr. King, the civil rights movement confronts new challenges and old ones. "While we have come a long way, the fight continues to protect the gains of generations past, and make the American principle of equal justice under law ever more true for our children. For working people struggling for economic security, for those consigned to communities plagued by violence and failing schools, and for the disenfranchised of all races, there is still a long way to go. "Let us use the memory of Dr. King's extraordinary vision to serve as a guiding and inspiring force to empower us in the fight for true equality, to fulfill the promise of equal opportunity and reach our country's full potential." |
